What are the most formidable challenges inherent to the profession of filmmaking?

For me, the most formidable challenges in the filmmaking profession include finding financing, managing and effectively distributing films. Overcoming these challenges requires creativity, organizational skills and determination.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Could you elaborate on the wellspring of your creative inspiration for this particular short film?

The short film “Agosto dos Ventos” was inspired by the rich local culture of my city, the main character is inspired by the typical pequi fruit, an exotic fruit with a remarkable flavor and very important for the local economy, the scenarios are representations of the city of Montes Claros.

Could you elucidate on the central thematic underpinning of your film?

In the short film, the main character “Pequi Nino” wants to attend the “Catopês” cultural festival, a typical Brazilian festival that has been taking place for almost 200 years.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

How do you navigate the task of strategizing cost-effective promotional efforts when operating within a constrained budget?

Given the short film’s low budget, the strategy is to find festivals that are accessible and democratic, as well as those that value celebrations and traditions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In today's dynamic marketplace, how pivotal do you consider the role of film distribution?

The role of good film distribution remains fundamental. With the evolution of platforms and consumer behavior, understanding and adapting to distribution trends, including digital and streaming services, is essential for filmmakers to maximize their reach and impact.

They provide a valuable platform for honing storytelling skills, experimenting with cinematographic techniques and showcasing one’s talent to a wider audience, including potential collaborators and investors. What, in your view, are the critical factors that contribute to the creation of a cinematic masterpiece?

For me, the critical factor is to understand your target audience and try to adapt your idea to their requirements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If you could revisit the inception of your career, are there any aspects or decisions you would choose to alter in hindsight?

Not really, I think the process should be as it is, even if you go through difficulties that’s part of the process. These difficulties will make the director evolve and gain more experience.
